Private woodland near Great Hampden, Great Hampden

About the event

For  kids age 8+ and adults in a private wood near Great Hampden.

You'll learn how our ancestors made invaluable strings for tying their packs, clothes, camp furniture, and for fishing with. We'll look at some examples of cords made from nettles, brambles, willow, cedar and chestnut.

We'll gather stinging nettles (with gloves!), process them down into fibres and then twist them into a cordage that can be used as a bracelet, necklace, or anything else you fancy.

I'll show you how to make natural beads from the elder tree and thread these onto your cordage as decoration. Then you can take the finished product home and wear it proudly!

You can relax and take your time making a bracelet (or necklace if you're good!) whilst I use some of the nettle leaves to make nettle soup we can all try.

A fun and relaxing way to connect with nature in the woods.

No prior knowledge needed - this is a fun and skill building session.
