About the event
We wouldn't be here if our ancestors couldn't control fire yet today many of us have lost these skills.
On this detailed workshop we'll cover every aspect of fire lighting in the bush to take you from beginner to master, including:
*Theory of fire
*Wood selection
*Gathering tinder and kindling
*Wood processing - splitting wood with knives to create kindling
*Discussion of the 6 methods of fire ignition: spark, optical, friction, compression, electrical, chemical
*Demos and participation with these methods
*Creating and managing fire layouts for optimal lighting, heating and cooking
*How to safely clear away a fire to leave no trace
Suitable for complete beginners. No prior experience is needed and I welcome complete beginners. All equipment you need will be provided on the day.
Tea and coffee will be available all day from the camp kettle!
This course is aimed at ages 16+ (due to working with knives, fire, and chemicals, and needing to receive detailed instructions). An egaged child aged 12+ with adult supervision can also take part - please book on both the child and the adult.
